DALARNA

Traveling in Dalarna is like experiencing Sweden in miniature. The mountains, the culture, the lakes and mountains, the red cottages, the craft tradition and the exciting industrial history. All gathered at close range.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Carl Larssons´s Sundborn We arrive in Sweden and head towards Dalarna and Sundborn. Here we visit the Carl Larsson farm. The house looks exactly as it did when Carl and Karin Larsson themselves lived here. During a guided tour we learn more about the world-famous artist couple and their noisy life. We then enjoy Hyttstugan’s delicious lunch buffet. After checking in at our hotel, dinner awaits.
  • Day 2: Lake Siljan Today we will travel both around and on Lake Siljan. First on the program is a stop in Nusnäs where we get to see how the famous Dala horses are made and there is the opportunity to buy a horse or two. In Mora we make a visit to Zorngården. In Anders and Emma Zorn’s home from the turn of the century, we are shown around the unconventionally decorated rooms where art and crafts from different directions are mixed with kurbits and Dalarna tradition. Woven wallpaper, antique marble sculptures, paintings by old masters and furniture designed by Zorn himself. Particularly spectacular is the Great Room on the second floor, which measures nine meters in height. In the garden outside, some of Zorn’s own sculptures stand among rose hedges, peonies, kitchen plants and fruit trees. We go on to Dalarna’s largest island, Sollerön, and up to Gesundaberget, which offers a fantastic view of the Siljan region. Here we eat our packed lunch. The next visit will be to the beautiful garden at Hildasholm where we get a guided tour of the flowers. If there is time, we make a stop in Leksand’s bakery shop and buy some of the delicious crispbread. Before going back to the hotel, we end the day with a cruise on Siljan and enjoy a good dinner on board.
  • Day 3: Stockholm After breakfast we leave Dalarna and head for Stockholm. Here we visit the artist’s home Millesgården, which today is also a museum and an extensive sculpture park. We also have lunch here and then we visit Fotografiska, the contemporary museum of photograpy, art and culture. It is then time to start the journey back home.
